Bonka, well renowned Australia wide for their energetic performances and amazing mashups, are also past Your Shot contestants, competing in the 2014 edition. Since their time with us, the boys have been busy touring Australia and overseas. We caught up with them to chat about their time in the competition, recent tours and future ambitions.

How would you best describe your music style? Has it changed much since your time at Your Shot?

Our music style has changed significantly since our time in Your Shot. We’ve diversified the styles and tempos of music which we play in our sets, such as hardstyle, trap, big room, electro all mixed with popular vocals so that it appeals to a lot of different people.

What are some vital lessons you have learnt so far?

Nothing is more important for us than being able to play a diverse range of shows, having the ability to play to any room despite what you expect to play or what set you are booked for is the key to progress quickly as a DJ.

What inspired you to start DJing?

We started DJing because it was something that seemed like a lot of fun and something we were both immediately intrigued by. Since the beginning it has truly been one of the best jobs in the world.

Can you tell us one interesting fact most people wouldn’t know about you?

We both met at a house party and that’s where we actually had the idea to start BONKA!

What’s the craziest thing you’ve witnessed while playing at a gig?

Probably a team of what I think were rugby players running naked through a nightclub…… for us that’s pretty weird haha!

What do the next few months have in store for you?

The next few months will be very busy for us, we are releasing our first original very soon which is mega exciting. In terms of shows we are currently on our Summer ’16 tour in Australia until we head overseas to play a bunch of shows in July!

What would you be doing if you weren’t DJs?

Well I suppose university and work like everyone else our age! We’d be wandering aimlessly until we found something we love doing… Lucky for us we have already found that thing!

What is one piece of advice you would give to someone thinking of registering for Your Shot?

Don’t think of Your Shot as the be all and end all… think of it as the best first step in what could be an incredible journey where you will meet a lot of great people and have a lot of fun!
