snilluM has been busy over the past two years! Since his time in the Your Shot competition, snilluM has landed a weekly residency at Starfvckers Club, created the successful TENSION parties and released a range of unique tracks!
How would you best describe your music style? Has it changed much since your time at Your Shot?
I try to keep my DJ sets and production as left-field as I can without being too much of a weirdo.. My taste in music has definitely matured and will continue to do so, but one thing that hasn’t really changed is my froth for a dark and heavy bassline!
What are some of your favourite memories from early gigs post Your Shot?
Landing my weekly residency at Starfvckers shortly after Your Shot was a dream come true and i’m still to this day very thankful to call that place home. My first taste of international work was getting flown over to NZ for a sold out show in an underground car park, and that was insane. The main stage ivy gigs for Courtyard Party and Pacha Sydney have always been something special, and being given the opportunity to warm-up and close for legendary Aussie acts like Peking Duk and Emoh Instead when they were still on the local circuit was an epic learning curve.
What are some vital lessons you have learnt so far?
Give everyone the time of day that they deserve. It’s the same for everything, but it’s clear that the vast majority of successful people in the Australian music industry are all-round legends!
What inspired you to start DJing/producing?
I jumped into street promoting the night I turned 18 and was consistently watching local artists like Starfvckers, Ember, Go Freek and a stack of others rip clubs apart every Friday and Saturday night. Listening to club music became a natural thing and playing/making it came shortly after.
You’ve been running your ‘Tension’ parties for quite some time now. How are they going?
The Tension events have definitely exceeded my expectations and it’s been amazing to watch it grow into what it is now. The big number 10 is happening later this year and there are some super exciting things on the horizon!
What do the next few months have in store for snilluM?
I’ve been locked away in the bedroom studio for more than a while, so plenty of new music is on the way.
What would you be doing if you weren’t a DJ?
Running more parties or using my hotel management degree, but that’s staying on the shelf where it belongs..
What is one piece of advice you would give someone thinking of registering for Your Shot?
